The BAMC mug is an ongoing feature of the conference. This year our design has been created with computational input from current Loughborough PhD student Jack Paget.
The images show the relaxation of smectic layering in confinement- the first “2” at a much earlier time than the second. Red and yellow icons mark the presence of positively and negatively charged topological defects in the lamellar structure.
